Planning officers give approval for Great Yarmouth casino.
The local authority in Great Yarmouth has given conditional approval to Albert Jones' revised plans for a new casino complex in the seaside resort.Mr Jones resubmitted his proposal for the £35 million Edge development due to concerns from English Heritage, which claimed that the casino could interfere with views of Great Yarmouth's seafront monument to Lord Nelson.
With the conservation group having withdrawn its objections after the businessman modified his plans, Great Yarmouth Borough Council has now approved Mr Jones' blueprint, the Eastern Daily Press reports.
The next stage of the process will see regional government body GO-East examine the plans before they can receive final approval.
Meanwhile, the Great Yarmouth Mercury reports that another gambling venue in the town has applied to extend its opening hours.
Grosvenor Casino, which currently opens from 14:00 to 06:00 GMT, has asked the council for permission to offer 24-hour gaming services.
