Report reveals increase in online poker revenues for Italy.
A new report has revealed that revenues for online poker in Italy increased by 30 per cent month-on-month in January 2009.CardPlayer Europe reports that total industry revenue reached 130 million (£118 million) in the first month of the year, according to findings from Agicoscommesse.
Italy's online poker sector is enjoying a boom brought on by the recent introduction of a dedicated regulatory and licensing system, with online cash games made legal in September 2008.
Agicoscommesse's report states that over four million online poker tournaments have taken place on Italian poker sites since October last year.
In a recent interview with bluffeurope.com, Italian poker pros Dario Minieri and Luca Pagano confirmed that the legalisation of Texas hold'em has boosted the popularity of poker in the country.
Minieri told the website: "I think people in Italy have always liked to play games and because we can now play Texas hold'em legally, it's great, and people are playing loads.
"I think Italy sends one of the largest numbers of players to the European Poker Tour."
