Benitez set to leave Liverpool?

New book on next Liverpool manager available at sports betting firms.

The current speculation surrounding Rafa Benitez has prompted sports betting firm William Hill to open a book on the next Liverpool manager, with Kenny Dalglish emerging as the early favourite.

Dalglish can be backed at 2/1 to succeed Benitez, who is still being linked with a move away from Anfield despite Liverpool's 1-0 win at Real Madrid in the Champions League last night (February 25th).

Several bookmakers, including William Hill, stopped taking bets on the Spaniard becoming the next Premier League manager to leave his job yesterday as rumours of his impending exit circulated.

However, William Hill spokesperson Graham Sharpe suggested that some punters may be keen to bet on the next Liverpool boss even if Benitez stays in the job.

"We have started to receive requests from punters about who will eventually succeed him, whether it is this weekend or a few years down the line," Mr Sharpe explained.

Jose Mourinho is the current second favourite at 3/1, with Martin O'Neill available at 8/1 and Frank Rijkaard a 9/1 bet.

A late headed goal from Yossi Benayoun gave Liverpool victory in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie at the Bernabeu Stadium.
