Welsh poker player clinches cash prize

First major tournament victory for Welsh poker pro Romanello.

Welsh poker player Roberto Romanello is $200,000 (£140,829) richer after taking down the PartyPoker European Open V in London at the weekend.

The Swansea-based pro beat European number one Marc Goodwin in a heads-up battle at the final table to claim the first major poker title of his card-playing career.

Other players at the final table on Friday (February 13th) included Irish Open champion Neil Channing and Craig Burgess, runner-up at last year's PartyPoker European Open.

"I've made so many final tables but never managed to nail down a title - this win couldn't mean any more to me," Romanello said afterwards.

A spokesperson for PartyPoker added: "When the final table was set many could not look beyond Neil Channing and Marc Goodwin, but Roberto Romanello is a truly deserving winner."

The action from the European Open V, which also featured players such as Annette Obrestad, Roland de Wolfe and Victoria Coren, will be broadcast on Five later this year.

Coren can also currently be seen in the PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker series on Channel 4.
