Ayr bingo club helps to provide new wheelchair in Ayrshire.
A Kilmarnock bingo club's fundraising efforts are set to make a major difference to the life of a local child.Laurie Finlayson, a four-year-old who suffers from cerebral palsy, will be presented with a new automatic wheelchair thanks to Mecca Bingo in Ayr and the Whizz-Kidz charity.
According to the Kilmarnock Standard, the bingo venue managed to raise £2,415 for Whizz-Kidz last year, when the organisation became Mecca's designated charity.
Some of that money has been used to provide Laurie with the new wheelchair he needs to improve his mobility and independence.
"The new wheelchair will make such a big difference to Laurie and, in fact, to the whole family," his mother Isobel Finlayson told the newspaper.
Julie Holderness, general manager at Mecca Bingo in Ayr, added: "We are over the moon that Laurie will now have greater freedom to get around."
Last year Mecca Bingo generated over £280,000 for Whizz-Kidz as part of its national fundraising campaign.
Founded in 1990, Whizz-Kidz aims to provide wheelchairs and other mobility equipment for children with disabilities.
