Not enough iPhone users to support mobile gambling, expert claims.
The market for mobile gambling is still in its infancy because many consumers do not have advanced mobile handsets, a gaming expert has claimed.Warwick Bartlett, lead partner at Global Betting and Gambling Consultants, said that the impact of mobile services on the wider gambling industry will be "negligible" this year.
When asked whether the mobile gambling is poised to take off in the UK, Mr Bartlett said "not yet", as many devices lack the technology to support gaming services.
He explained: "The technology is available but it is not in the hands of the consumer yet.
"If everybody had an Apple iPhone then I'm sure that mobile gambling would take off, but not everybody does yet."
Despite Mr Bartlett's comments, a recent report from Juniper Research stated that global mobile gambling wagers will reach almost $5 billion (£3.5 billion) in 2009.
