Online casinos still secure, says industry expert.
The electronic card counting devices causing controversy in the gambling industry do not pose a significant threat to online casinos, a gaming expert has claimed.Brian Wright, director of business at the Remote Gambling Association, said that the use of a card counting device would be "almost impossible" online due to the advanced security measures put in place by most internet casinos.
Last month it emerged that casino authorities in Nevada had warned gambling venues in Las Vegas about a card counting application available on the iPhone.
The State of Nevada Gaming Control Board was concerned that the system, which is more difficult to detect when the iPhone is switched to 'stealth mode', could be used to gain an advantage at the blackjack tables.
However, Mr Wright believes that online casinos are not as vulnerable to such devices.
"The distinct advantage online gaming has over its bricks and mortar equivalent is that the security systems, audit trails and software protections are so advanced that card counter infiltration is almost impossible," he explained.
High-stakes card counting was dramatised in last year's film 21, which tells the story of the notorious MIT card counting team.
