Irish gambling venue to host poker festival again this summer.
The Macau Sporting Club is set to host the seventh annual Irish Classic Poker Festival in Cork this summer.Taking place at the Irish gaming complex from August 10th to 16th, the event will climax with a three-day, 1,000 (£931) buy-in main event carrying a guaranteed prize pool of 100,000.
Last year's tournament was won by Rob Taylor, who outlasted a record field of 169 players including Annette Obrestad, Michael Greco, Ian Woodley, Roy Brindley and Marty Smyth.
"Last year saw record numbers at the festival, including overseas players, and with the reduced buy-in this year designed to combat recessionary woes we're confident we can make the festival even bigger and better," said tournament co-ordinator Ken Corkery.
Describing itself as "Europe's best-kept secret", the Macau Sporting Club is located close to the centre of Cork and operates nightly cash tournaments for poker players.
The venue's casino area is spread over 13,000 sq ft and offers roulette, blackjack and three-card poker facilities.
