Barbers Shop's royal connections prompt sports betting activity.
With the Queen travelling to Prestbury Park for the final day of the Cheltenham Festival today (13th March), sports betting firms are offering a number of special wagers on Barbers Shop. The royal racehorse is set to run in the Gold Cup this afternoon, going up against the strongly-fancied trio of Kauto Star, Denman and Neptune Collonges from the Paul Nicholls stable.
However, Barbers Shop is also attracting plenty of interest from punters, with Sky Bet cutting its odds from 14/1 to 12/1 after a flurry of wagers yesterday.
The bookmaker has several specials based on the Queen's trip to Cheltenham, offering odds of 33/1 on her majesty crying with joy if Barbers Shop comes home first in the Gold Cup.
Alternatively, the Queen is 20/1 to wear a black velvet hat with gold trim, matching the colours worn by Barbers Shop jockey Barry Geraghty.
"Barbers Shop has been almost as well backed as Denman and Kauto Star, and if he succeeds in beating the formidable pair the roof will surely be blown off the grandstand!" said Sky Bet spokesperson Helen Jacob.
Kauto Star is favourite for the race at 7/4 with Paddy Power.
