Essex bingo players enjoy the numbers game in Colchester.
An Essex bingo hall is attracting hundreds of players each day, with many people choosing the numbers game as their new leisure activity of choice. The Gala Bingo venue in Colchester has become a hotspot for people seeking excitement and adrenaline without having to resort to "skydiving or bungee jumping", local newspaper the Gazette reports.
According to the publication, the bingo club attracts about 300 players each day on average, with up to 1,000 people arriving on particularly busy days.
"For a lot of people, coming here is a chance to see their friends and socialise," said Laura Schlarb, assistant manager at Gala Bingo.
She told the newspaper: "When someone wins the buzz is amazing. We had a girl, two or three weeks ago, who won £10,500, and in the same night we had another man win £2,000."
In other news, Mecca Bingo recently confirmed its plans for a new 'super' bingo hall in Nottingham. The £5.5 million venue, which will offer live entertainment and touchscreen bingo games, is due to open next month.
