Application process for new Scarborough gambling venue set to begin.
A new report on the forthcoming casino development in Scarborough explains how the project should contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the town.Scarborough was one of 16 UK destinations granted permission for a new gambling venue in government legislation introduced last year, with local councillors now set to begin the licensing process.
Council licensing officer Una Faithfull has produced a document that sets out the criteria for a successful casino development to the borough council's cabinet, the Yorkshire Post reports.
Her report states: "The primary objective is that the design and impact of the casino should have a positive effect and change the image of the street or locality.
"The casino should be on a site which is in an area in need of improvement or redevelopment."
According to the newspaper, three sites in the North Yorkshire seaside resort are currently being considered as potential casino locations.
Scarborough is one of eight destinations to receive a licence for a new 'small' casino, alongside Bath, East Lindsey in Lincolnshire, Luton, Swansea, Stranraer, Torbay and Wolverhampton.
