Dominik Nitsche wins poker tournament in Argentina

German poker player records historic win at LAPT event.

Dominik Nitsche, an 18-year-old student from Germany, has become the youngest ever player to win an event on the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT).

Playing in his first live poker tournament, Nitsche outlasted a field of 291 players to take the first prize of $381,030 (£261,458) at the LAPT Mar del Plata in Argentina yesterday (April 19th).

After qualifying for the tournament online, the rookie entered the final table as chip leader and defeated Mexico's Jorge Landazuri de los Rios in heads-up play to seal victory.

According to Bluff Europe magazine, Nitsche has opted to delay university to focus on his poker career and will now head to Monte Carlo for next week's European Poker Tour Grand Final.

LAPT Mar del Plate generated a record prize pool of just over $1.4 million thanks to the high number of players, with big names such as Joe Hachem and Chris Moneymaker taking part.

The 2009 EPT Grand Final takes place at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort from April 28th to May 3rd.
