Bingo suggested as new classroom activity by government report.
A government behaviour expert has suggested that games of bingo could help teachers to engage with disruptive pupils.Sir Alan Steer, who was asked to carry out a four-year study of pupil behaviour by schools secretary Ed Balls, said that classroom activities should be adapted to hold the attention of unruly children.
He believes that playing bingo or dominos and adapting popular TV games such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire? for the classroom could improve interaction between teachers and students.
"Children learn good behaviour from watching others and all adults have a responsibility and a part to play in teaching them," Sir Alan said.
His report states that teachers have a responsibility to raise standards of behaviour and maintain discipline in the classroom.
The recommendations were endorsed by Mr Balls, who said that all schools should be encouraged to "achieve the highest possible standard of pupil behaviour".
Figures released by the Department for Children, Schools and Families in June 2008 revealed that permanent schools exclusions had fallen by seven per cent on the previous year.
