Gambling venue to host opening dinner before Nato summit in Strasbourg.
Gordon Brown and Barack Obama are expected to be among the 28 world leaders heading to a famous casino in Baden-Baden for dinner tonight (April 3rd).The opulent surroundings of the Kurhaus Casino will provide the backdrop for the event, which opens the 60th anniversary Nato summit taking place in Strasbourg this weekend.
Brigitte Goertz-Meissner, spokesperson for Kur & Tourismus GmbH, told Bloomberg that the casino is the "classical centrepiece" of the German spa town.
According to the news agency, the grand gambling venue was once described by Marlene Dietrich as "the most beautiful casino in the world" and inspired Fyodor Dostoevsky to write The Gambler.
However, Nato leaders hoping to try their luck at the roulette or blackjack tables will be disappointed, as all gaming equipment has been removed ahead of their arrival.
Baden-Baden may be familiar to football fans as the location of the England team's training base during the World Cup in 2006.
