Boris Becker to take part in charity poker tournament

Monte Carlo casino will host next week's celebrity poker tournament.

A number of European sports legends and international poker stars have signed up for next week's Ante Up for Africa event.

Taking place in Europe for the first time this month, Ante Up for Africa is a charity poker tournament set up by Don Cheadle and Annie Duke to raise money for victims of the crisis in Darfur.

Having been hugely successful in the US, the event will now cross the Atlantic to Monte Carlo as part of the European Poker Tour's (EPT) Grand Final week.

According to the EPT website, players now confirmed to take part include German tennis legend Boris Becker, French rugby star Sebastian Chabal, former Spanish footballer Poli Rincon and Italy striker Christian Vieri.

Many of the professional poker world's top names will also be in attendance, with reigning World Series of Poker champion Peter Eastgate expected in Monte Carlo as well as Joe Hachem, Daniel Negreanu and Victor Ramdin.

Ante Up for Africa takes place on at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort on Monday April 27th with a buy-in of €4,000 (£3,586).

Vieri, the 35-year-old former Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Inter Milan striker, recently suggested that he plans to pursue a career as a poker player after retiring from football.
