The 23 year-old pop starlet Lady Gaga is inspiring a new generation of poker stars with her hit single Poker Face.
The song hit Number One in the singles charts in the United Kingdom this weekend, and Number Two in the United States.
Poker Face is littered with gambling metaphors, as Lady Gaga (whose real name is Stefani Germanotta) sings “I wanna hold’em like they do in Texas please, Fold ‘em let ‘em hit me raise it baby stay with me”
And goes on to sing “I wanna roll him with a hard pair we will be / A little gambling is fun when you’re with me. Russian roulette is not the same without a gun, and baby when it’s love if it’s not rough it isn’t fun.”
The song has made it to Number 1 in Canada, Belgium, Norway, and Switzerland.
Poker Pro Adam Levy said “I’d say it wont make any more fish play, but it definitely aids poker in being a bit more mainstream. With the growing popularity of Lady Gaga it can only enhance the public’s image of poker.”
Another poker pro, Bryan Micon explained how he was outside of Pure nightclub in Vegas one eventing. “They were blasting ‘Poker Face’, Pure is right next to the poker room and there were actually people coming out of the club and banging their heads to the song like ‘Ahh, Poker Face!’ and then looking over at the poker room and being like ‘Ahhh, poker!’. That actually happened”.
