Gaming firm expanding with Facebook applications

Poker game is one of the most popular applications on Facebook.

Online game developer Zynga has been named the top application provider on Facebook.

According to the latest statistics from AllFacebook and AppData, Zynga's applications on the popular social networking portal have over 40 million monthly active users.

The San Francisco-based company, which also provides social games for MySpace, Bebo and the iPhone platform, has enjoyed considerable success with its Texas Hold'Em Poker game on Facebook.

"Our mission is to make the most fun and social games on the planet and it's great to see that the numbers are with us," said Zynga's chief executive officer Mark Pincus.

"We couldn't be more excited about the progress that we've made along with Facebook and our other platform partners."

Last month, Facebook's head of games Gareth Davis told Reuters that 11 million people now use the site to play online poker each month.

Other Facebook game applications developed by Zynga include Mafia Wars, Street Racing and Word Twist.
