Essex man takes down Grosvenor UK Poker Tour event.
Simon Moorman celebrated in style by winning the £88,630 first prize at the fourth leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) in Manchester on Sunday (April 26th).The 52-year-old credit manager from Essex took part in the event after his son Chris, a successful online poker pro, bought him an entry as a belated birthday present.
Playing in only his second live poker tournament, Moorman went on to outlast the field of 298 players and clinch first place after beating Finland's Harri Isomaki in heads-up play at the G Casino.
"The only way I can top this is to win the main event of the World Series of Poker," proud son Chris Moorman said afterwards.
Online qualifier Isomaki went home with £54,380, while third-placed Eddie Lundon pocketed £35,760 and Kenny Burke received £23,240 after finishing fourth.
The next leg of the GUKPT gets underway in Newcastle on May 18th. There are five more legs before the Grand Final takes place at London's Victoria Casino from November 19th to 29th.
