EPT Grand Final taking place in Monte Carlo

Climax of EPT season gets underway at casino in Monte Carlo.

The main event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final gets underway today (April 28th), with many of the world's top poker players heading to Monte Carlo for the tournament.

Current World Series of Poker champion Peter Eastgate is in the field, alongside poker luminaries such as Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem and Greg Raymer.

Taking place at the Monte Carlo Bay Resort, the Grand Final marks the climax of an EPT season that began with the Barcelona Open in September 2008.

Winners from that tournament will be present in Monte Carlo this week, as well as players who tasted success at EPT events in London, Budapest, Warsaw, Prague, Deauville, Copenhagen, Dortmund and San Remo.

Over 740 players have registered for the main event, with tennis legend Boris Becker and former Swedish footballer Tomas Brolin due to take part.

Last year's Grand Final main event was won by Glen Chorny, an online qualifier from Canada who defeated Hungary's Denes Kalo to clinch the €2 million (£1.7 million) first prize.
