The World Poker Tour Foxwoods Poker classic is in full swing, but this year only 259 players entered the poker tournament, compared with 346 last year.
Some poker pros have spoken out against the organization of the tournament. One player, Will Failla, said “The tournament sucks. The structure sucks, and the tournament’s bad. Even the satellites haven’t been as good as they normally would be.”
Failla, who goes by the poker name “The Thrill” said that the floor people at the tournament don’t know their own rules. He explained that he likes to talk during the game, and when the staff told him he was not allowed to, he was furious. “It say right there in their rules that you can.”
Another player, Amnon Filippi, agreed. Saying that the location of the tournament was unpopular. It’s “In the middle of nowhere”, he said of the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. He also added that the tournament staff were “semi-par.”
This year Daniel Negreanu chose not to take part in the $10,000 No-Limit Texas Hold’em WPT event because of the tax policy of the casino. He also said that he thought the tournament’s timing was bad, since it collides with the Spring Championship of Online Poker and the WPT Championship preliminary events.
Competition is tough for poker tournaments this year, and it is made even harder at such a busy time of year, if the tournament is in a casino which is hard to get to.
