Rank's G Casino brand to take over at West Midlands gaming venue.
The casino at Coventry's Ricoh Arena is set to remain open following the purchase of the venue by Rank Group, it has emerged.US gaming operator Isle of Capri has sold the casino for £650,000, with Rank planning to relaunch the venue under its Grosvenor Casinos brand after investing over £1.6 million.
According to the Coventry Telegraph, the deal has saved about 120 jobs at the casino, which opened in 2007 as part of the £113 million Ricoh Arena.
"The property will continue to operate under the management of one of the top UK gaming companies, so we do not expect the impact of a closure to be felt by employees or patrons," said Donn Mitchell, senior vice president of UK operations at Isle of Capri.
Daniel Gidney, chief executive of Arena Coventry, told the newspaper that Rank's decision to buy the venue was "very good news for the Ricoh Arena and for Coventry".
Isle of Capri has announced plans to concentrate on its US operations. The St Louis-based company runs 16 casinos spread across Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Iowa, Colorado and Florida.
