The National Association of Women in Construction are holding their annual Tool/Longaberger Basket Bingo charity event tonight. The event will be held at Plumbers and Steamfitters in Terre Haute, with play starting at 6PM, and the entrance fee being $12 for tickets bought in advance, and $15 if bought at the door.
The proceeds will go to the Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build. This is a joint project between NAWIC and Habitat for Himanity.
Women Build is a Habitat International program that hopes to empower women to build Habitat for Humanity homes, giving them a chance to positively impact the lives of children by making homeownership a reality for their families. The project does not aim to exclude men, rather it is simply about including women.
NAWIC has been around for more than 50 years, and the new partnership with Habitat will help women to take advantage of the opportunities in construction – either as a career change, or as a chance to make a difference in the community, continue their education, and make new friends.
Existing women in construction can use the project as a way to meet newcomers to the industry, and begin a mentor/mentee relationship.
