Bingo player unhappy with staff at Gala venue

Missed bingo prize leads to sit-down protest at Manchester venue.

A disgruntled player staged a sit-down protest after missing out on a prize at her local bingo hall.

Elaine Prendergast was dismayed after staff at the Gala Bingo venue in Wythenshawe, Manchester, refused to pay out her £1,070 prize because she was too late in claiming the win.

The 63-year-old player insists that she called out and waved her arms in an attempt to alert the caller, but he proceeded with the game until another player shouted house, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Ms Prendergast told the newspaper: "The caller must have heard me. Everyone around me did and I have witnesses on the other side of the bingo hall who heard me. Even the steward said he heard me.

"It is not even about the money. I didn't even realise there was a £1,000 bonus until another lady told me."

The mother-of-four now intends to take her complaints to the Gambling Commission.

Gala Bingo operates over 175 clubs in the UK and claims to pay out up to £28 million in prizes each week.
