Gaming expert anticipates further government intervention over online casinos.
A gambling industry expert has claimed that Congressman Barney Frank's bill to reverse the ban on internet gaming in the US will be the first of many attempts to establish new regulation for online casinos.Mr Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, has proposed a new system whereby the US treasury department will license online gambling firms and keep a close eye on the regulation of the industry.
Director of H2 Gambling Capital Simon Holliday said that he expects government figures in the US and Europe to implement new laws for online gambling operators in the next few years, even though Mr Frank's attempt may ultimately prove fruitless.
"Although this bill may not be successful this time round, eventually I see the US and the majority of European member states regulating [online] gaming," Mr Holliday commented.
He also said that conflicts between state authorities and the federal government are likely to hold up new legislation for online gambling in the US.
"Traditionally gambling has been an issue for the [individual] states and any attempt to centralise power could lead to additional issues and delays," Mr Holliday explained.
