Devon man celebrates poker success

Online poker player wins £1,800 in first live event in Swansea.

A fish farmer from Devon is £1,800 richer after winning the latest leg of the Sky Poker UK Tour in Wales.

Aaron Hopkins outlasted a field of 109 players to win the tournament at Swansea's Aspers Casino last week, beating Ian Atwater in the final heads-up session.

On his way to the final table Mr Hopkins also saw off competition from his wife Naomi, although he later admitted that she is "the better player out of the two of us".

"There was a little bit of luck involved but I just went for it and came out the winner," said the champion, who honed his skills playing online poker and had taken part in just six live tournaments before the Swansea event.

Mr Hopkins now goes through to the Sky Poker UK Tour grand final, which takes place at the Dusk Till Dawn poker room in Nottingham on June 13th and 14th.

The event will feature over 250 players from previous legs of the tour and a guaranteed prize pool of £25,000.
