Developer has plan to build £35 million casino and leisure complex in seaside resort.
Albert Jones' plan to build a £35 million casino complex in Great Yarmouth has received planning approval from the regional government body Go East. The decision to give the proposal the green light means that Mr Jones now has a significant head start in the race to win the licence for a new gambling venue in Great Yarmouth, the Norwich Evening News reports.
Although several developers have voiced an interest in building a new casino in the Norfolk resort, Mr Jones is the only one to have secured planning permission so far.
"We have got plans that are deliverable," he told the newspaper.
"So long as we get the licence, we have all the finance in place for a scheme that will create 1,000 jobs and give a big boost to the whole of East Anglia, not just Yarmouth and the seafront."
Known as The Edge, Mr Jones' proposal includes a four-star hotel and a casino operated by Aspers, as well as a cinema, bowling alley and several restaurants.
Aspers currently runs casinos in Newcastle, Swansea and Northampton.
