Nightclub owners need permission to convert property into a gambling venue.
The owners of a former nightclub in Leeds are not giving up on their hopes of converting the venue into a new casino.Waterimage, a partnership between Luminar Group Holdings and Lucien Barriere, was recently denied a gaming licence for the former Majestyk night spot, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.
The firm is now planning to appeal against the decision, with a hearing scheduled for June 26th at Leeds Crown Court.
Although there are already three casinos operating in Leeds, the developers believe that a new gambling venue in the Majestyk building would benefit the city and create new employment opportunities.
The £14 million venue, which would combine a casino area with restaurants, cabaret shows and other live entertainment, is expected to generate over 100 new jobs if given the green light.
In September last year, the Alea Casino at Clarence Dock became the latest addition to the Leeds casino scene when it opened with 17 live gaming tables and over 40 slot machines.
