A masked bandit armed with a shotgun held up the participants of a Woodbridge Poker Tournament being held at the township’s American Legion Hall. The bandit fled the scene with more than $2,400 and fired shots into the air when he was chased by patrons.
The bandit entered the hall via the side door at 12:40 AM on Saturday, just as a tournament official was bagging money collected for the winners of the poker tournament. According to the police, around 35 people were taking part in the tournament, and had contributed $85 each.
The robber put a shotgun round into the chamber of the weapon, and threatened to kill the patrons if they moved. The robber grabbed the cash from the woman who had been holding it, and fled the scene. Two people followed him, and the gunman fired a shot into the air, making the players run back into the hall.
Investigators have recovered some wadding from a discharged shotgun shell, and are currently speaking with nearby residents who say that the heard the shot, and saw a silver-colored Range Rover speeding down the street.
