Handsets such as iPhone will support mobile sports betting services.
Mobile gaming company Mfuse believes that the sports betting industry is set to receive a major boost from the growth of mobile gambling services.Rick Brownlow, business development director at the firm, said the market for mobile sports betting will continue to expand as handsets become more sophisticated and public awareness of their functions increases.
He claimed that the scope for games such as roulette and blackjack on mobile devices is currently quite small because the technology is "much more attuned to sports betting".
"Mobile is all about the immediacy of it. You can be down at the pub, you can be at the match, and it's the only medium you've got to be able to place a bet," Mr Brownlow explained.
He said that the growing popularity of high-end handsets developed by Apple and Nokia is an encouraging sign for mobile sports betting.
Last month, Mfuse made an agreement with gaming developer Probability that will see integrated games supplied to bookmakers such as Ladbrokes, Sky Bet, William Hill and Paddy Power.
