Norton, Cheshire recently played host to a Bingo Day. The day was held at a school gymnasium, with school teacher Debrah Manke playing the role of bingo host.
The bingo event attracted players of all ages, and an unexpected win came for an 11 year old, student Richard Barolli.
After selecting his prize, Barolli said “This was a lot of fun. I got some matchbox cars, that’s what I chose.”
The Bingo Day is a yearly event, and has been hosted by the school for the last ten years. The event allows sixth-grade students the chance to invite their older relatives over for an afternoon of fun and bingo playing.
Carol Warner, a teacher at the school, said “We have been doing this for the last ten years and it is always a very positive experience. Part of the goal here is to teach children about being a positive influence in their community.”
The event was targeted at students and their grandparents, but those students who had grandparents who were not able to attend were permitted to either nominate another relative, or pass on their ticket to the local senior’s centre. Some students invited their mothers, and others have grandparents who are regulars at the event. One such bingo regular is Gloria Bourbeau, who attended the event with her grandson, Gregory Brumleve. Mrs Bourbeau said “I did this three years ago and it was a wonderful time. I just love it. I love spending time with [... my grandchild...]”.
