The “Poker Brat”, Phil Hellmuth, is scheduled to appear on Poker After Dark this week.
Hellmuth is an 11-time bracelet holder, and is thought to be one of the best poker tournament players in the world, although many feel that when it comes to big cash games, he can’t quite compete with the best. His fans, and his detractors, will have a chance to watch him in competition in the $200-$400 games on NBC’s Poker After Dark, where he will compete against five other players in a $100,000 buy-in tournament.
The two-week poker after dark series, called “The Hellmuth Bash” will star Phil Hellmuth, Tom Dwan, Kenny Tran, Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiara, and Bob Safai.
This tournament will be the first time in the history of the Poker After Dark series that a cash game is featured over a two week period. The show, which airs daily, will have players re-draw their seats halfway through the session, so that viewers can see how the players adjust to being placed in different positions.
The tournament features a number of different play styles – Dwan is a cash games and online specialist who has proven very good at switching to “live” games. Esfandiara and Laak are both experienced TV players. They have often been paired off in TV tournaments, and are well known for their banter. Tran is an instinctive player who is known for his extreme confidence, and Safai is an amateur poker player with a strong background in high-stakes games.
