Poker fundraising event held for school in North Berwick.
A group of card players from Scotland have raised money for a local school project by hosting a special poker event. The Gentleman of North Berwick combined poker with whisky-tasting to generate £165 for the Malawi Project at North Berwick High School, the East Lothian Courier reports.
According to the newspaper, the six men are now hosting fundraising poker nights every three months, with the winner choosing the charity.
Commenting on this month's event, which will help a group of schoolchildren visiting Malawi next year, fundraiser Robin Grant told the publication: "We are delighted to support the school links with Malawi and the visit of pupils there next year.
"It's great to see our young folk doing something for others less fortunate."
Further fundraising events for the Malawi Project have already been planned, with a casino night taking place later this week.
Last month, a casino in Monte Carlo hosted poker fundraising on a larger scale, when the Ante Up for Africa event generated 160,000 (£143,741) for the crisis in Sudan.
