Eurosport devleoping new online gambling and sports betting services.
Eurosport has announced its intention to move into the online gambling sector with the launch of a new website.The satellite and cable network will roll out its online sports betting platform on June 1st, initially allowing users to place pre-match wagers on nine different sports.
Later this year, Eurosport intends to add a live betting function and a poker service to its online gambling portal.
"Several European countries are starting to deregulate the betting sector and so it is time for Eurosport to enter the market," explained marketing director of SPS Betting Caroline de Fontenay.
SPS Betting is the joint venture between Eurosport and investment fund Serendipity that will run eurosportbet.co.uk.
"Sports betting is no longer perceived as linked to negative rules and it offers a more engaging way to enjoy sports," Ms De Fontenay added.
The firm plans to launch an Italian version of the betting site in October, with separate portals for France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium and Poland to follow next year.
Eurosport currently broadcasts to 59 countries and offers programmes in 20 different languages.
