Vitaly Lunkin won the Russian Poker Tour in Moscow this weekend, defeating several of his countrymen at an all-Russian final table.
Lunkin is a multi-talented table game player; a backgammon fan and Renju champion, who adds the Russian Poker Tour to his list of accomplishments, and took home $445,709 as his first place prize, after he beat out some big-names, including WSOP Main Event Final Table qualifiers Alexander Kravchenko, and Ivan Demidov.
Lunkin entered the final nine with a comparatively short stack, but turned things around quickly, and went into heads-up play with Vyacheslav Goryachev holding a large chip lead. Lunkin finally came out on top when his pair of tens bested Goryachev’s ace-six, to take the win.
Lunkin defeated 206 players, who paid the $7,000 buy-in to take part in the event. The top 27 players took home some prize money.
Lunkin, who was born and raised in Moscow, is a former diet-supplements company manager, and has been a prominent part of the Russian Poker scene for the past five years.
Lunkin’s poker accomplishments include a World Series of Poker Bracelet in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event last year. This most recent win places him over the $1 million point in terms of career tournament earnings. Lunkin currently works as a professional poker coach for Poker Moscow.
