Aspers boss explains how the casino firm has grown since its launch in Newcastle.
Damian Aspinall, co-founder of the Aspers casino chain, believes that his company has helped to update the image of gambling venues in the UK.Aspers launched with a casino in Newcastle three years ago and now has venues in Swansea and Northampton, with another branch in Bournemouth in the pipeline.
Speaking to the Journal, Mr Aspinall said that the rapid growth of his business is partly due to its focus on an all-round entertainment experience, as well as gaming facilities.
"One-third of our customers are women, compared to just two per cent in the UK's other casinos. There are a lot of fun things going on and many people who come do not gamble," he told the newspaper.
Commenting on how perceptions of the casino industry have changed, he added: "We have helped dispel the myth about gaming venues. They are no longer viewed as smoke-filled, seedy gambling dens."
Mr Aspinall's father John held the UK's first ever gaming licence and opened the Aspinalls Club in Mayfair, London in 1962.
