Ivey is closing on Erik Seidel with seven World Series of Poker bracelets.
Phil Ivey took down the $2,500 Omaha/seven-card stud hi-lo split tournament to earn the seventh World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet of his career on Sunday (June 14th).The American poker ace, who had not picked up a WSOP bracelet since 2002 before this month, is now joint-sixth in the all-time league table of bracelet-winners alongside Billy Baxter.
Ivey has now collected two bracelets at this year's WSOP, having also won event number eight, the $2,500 no-limit deuce-to-seven draw lowball tournament, on June 5th.
Speaking to ESPN.com after his latest victory, Ivey explained why he is suddenly back in the hunt for WSOP bracelets this year.
"As I started getting older I started to realise this does matter. Winning bracelets, it does matter," the 32-year-old said.
"Just having the chance to put myself in poker history I know I have the chance to win and be the all-time bracelet leader if I can continue at this pace."
Phil Hellmuth currently tops the bracelet-winners chart with 11, while Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan both have ten. Johnny Moss won nine of the coveted wrist adornments and Erik Seidel is an eight-time bracelet-winner.
