Jason Mercier took his first World Series of Poker Bracelet at the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Tournament on Wednesday. Mercier, a 22 year-old poker pro and ex student of Floriday Atlantic University beat out a field of 809 entrants to win the tournament.
Mercier collected $237,462 in prize money, as well as the honour of a World Series of Poker Bracelet.
Mercier, a graduate of Sheridan Hills High in Hollywood, has enjoyed a lot of successes in the past year. He took his first ever cash prize in a tournament in April 2008, and since that victory, he has won five more poker tournaments, including two European Poker Tour championships and a WSOP gold bracelet. His career earnings have already passed the $3 million mark.
Mercier said “Winning always feels good, especially after last year. I played in 22 events. I went deep in just one of them. I finished 13th and that made me sick. I cashed three times and all three times I busted out with the worst starting hand, in marginal spots. I was really upset with how I played last year. Now, it feels great to win a gold bracelet, especially so early in the Series. Every time I enter a poker tournament, I think I can win it. Of course, you have to win some key pots.”
