New Mecca boss will aim to broaden bingo's appeal within the leisure industry.
Mark Jones has been appointed as the new managing director of Mecca Bingo by Rank Group, the gaming firm has announced.As the former head of Yates Group and Premium Bars and Restaurants, Mr Jones has considerable experience in the leisure industry and will be tasked with broadening the appeal of Mecca's bingo clubs.
The company's 103 venues in the UK generated a turnover of £227.6 million last year, but the economic downturn and recent changes to the tax regime have hit trading conditions.
Rank's chief executive Ian Burke commented: "Mecca Bingo has faced a number of challenges in recent years, but, having stabilised performance, we are now seeking to move forward, broadening our customer reach through product and service innovation.
"Mark's experience in the leisure retail sector will be invaluable as he leads Mecca Bingo into this new phase in its development."
The 48-year-old replaces previous managing director Simon Wykes, who left the business in May.
Mecca recently launched a new bingo venue in the Beeston area of Nottingham.
