Newspaper claims young professionals are joining the online bingo bandwagon.
Visiting online bingo portals has become a popular pastime among well-off young professionals, according to the London Evening Standard.The newspaper reports that a growing number of younger players are discovering the numbers game online, despite its reputation as the preserve of housewives and elderly people.
Anna Maloney, a 32-year-old marketing consultant from east London, said that she enjoys playing online bingo several times a week as "a bit of fun".
"It's simple and retro, you get a bit of a buzz. You chat to other players so it's sociable," she told the publication.
The Evening Standard cites a recent report from Mintel that found that people in the 18 to 24 age group now make up 700,000 of the 3.5 million bingo players in the UK.
In addition, the proportion of managerial and skilled workers playing bingo has increased from 27 per cent to 38 per cent.
The fourth annual Online Bingo Summit took place at the Millennium Gloucester hotel in London last week (July 16th and 17th).
