Online player beats Negreanu heads-up at Las Vegas poker event.
A relatively unknown online player defeated poker superstar Daniel Negreanu to claim his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet on Sunday night (June 7th).Known by his online alias 't soprano', Brock Parker showed all the ruthlessness of the fictional gangster to win the $2,500 (£1,540) six-handed limit hold 'em tournament, event number 14 at this year's WSOP.
Chasing his fifth bracelet in Las Vegas, Negreanu held the chip lead for the majority of the tournament but could not defeat Maryland resident Parker when it came to the heads-up session.
The Canadian was eventually forced to settle for the $138,280 second prize, with Parker taking home $223,697 for first and Finland's Tommi Horkko leaving with $89,660 in third.
Poker player Alex Borteh described Parker as an "online legend" of the poker world, despite his relatively low profile.
He commented: "People don't know Brock because he does not post on poker forums all day or draw attention to himself. He is a below-the-radar kind of guy."
Negreanu now has three cash finishes in this year's WSOP. He won his last bracelet in the $2,000 limit hold'em event last year.
