Plymouth Casino To Make History With Boxing Event

Boxing event scheduled for casino in Plymouth on June 25th.

A gambling venue in Plymouth is aiming to become the first English casino to officially host a boxing match this month.

The Grosvenor Casino will stage eight bouts on the evening of June 25th, with former Commonwealth boxing champion Nicky Piper hosting proceedings, local newspaper the Herald reports.

According to the publication, no casino in England has hosted a boxing event before, although Grosvenor venues in Wales have staged the sport in the past.

Mayflower Amateur Boxing Club will be providing boxers for the bouts and a member of staff from the Plymouth casino will be one of the men getting into the ring.

"This is the first time a boxing match has taken place within an English casino and we are looking forward to bringing some of the excitement and thrill of Las Vegas to Plymouth," general manager Jay Pillai told the newspaper.

"What started out as some harmless banter over the gaming tables between friends has become a reality," he added.

Last week, the Grosvenor Casino in Southampton hosted a special poker game to raise money for Southampton FC.
