Poker Player’s Alliance To Take The Fight To Congress

The Poker Players Alliance has launched National Poker Week – an even t which will continue the push for regulation of online poker in the USA. National Poker Week will take place between July 19th and July 25th. During National Poker Week, PPA members will send a message to United States lawmakers, indicating that their constituents support legislation to regulate and license poker – a game which the alliance estimates is played online by 10 million Americans.

As part of the week, more than thirty of the PPA’s State Directors, as well as several professional poker players, will travel to Washington DC to meet with members of Congress to ask them to support legislation such as the H.R 2267 bill introduced by Congressman Frank.

Frank’s bill, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009, would establish a federal regulatory and enforcement framework under which Internet gambling operators could become licensed, allowing them to provide their online gaming services to individuals living in the USA.

The PPA Chairman and a former Senator, Alfonse D’Amato, said “Our members, the Poker Players of America, are our best advocates to protect the future of poker. National Poker Week, with events in Washington, D.C, and across the country, is the PPA’s way to make it clear to my former colleagues in the US Congress that poker is important voters and is here to stay.”
