Ramsay was unable to attend casino event in Melbourne

Gordon Ramsay is planning to open a new restaurant at Melbourne's Crown Casino next year.

A severe case of food poisoning meant that Gordon Ramsay was forced to pull out of an appearance at the Crown Casino in Melbourne last week.

The celebrity chef is the face of the Australian city's Good Food and Wine Show, but was unable to visit the gambling venue on Thursday night (June 4th) due to the illness.

Ramsay, who is planning to open his Maze restaurant in the Crown Casino's new Metropol hotel early next year, will hope that his diners do not suffer from a similar experience.

Explaining his absence from the casino event, the 42-year-old said: "I got off the plane after a 16-hour flight from Los Angeles and I don't know what happened.

"I have had a severe food virus and I was constantly vomiting."

Now the largest gambling venue in Australia, the Crown Casino opened at the Southbank complex in 1997 and offers over 300 table games including craps, baccarat, blackjack, roulette and pai gow.
