Event four of the world series of poker, the $1,000 No-Limit hold’em Stimulus Special tournament saw a record 6,012 entries. The poker tournament was won by Steve Sung, a 24 year-old professional poker player. Sung won his first ever WSOP bracelet during the tournament – beating out the biggest ever non-WSOP Main Event tournament in the history of poker, to take home a prize of $771,106. Just days earlier, he had fell just short of the money in the $40,000 no-limit hold’em tournament.
Sung said “I was really bummed out after busting out of the $40K. I told myself I have to start playing better. I was able to bounce back.”
Sung made it through a final table full of other pros, including Dan Heimiller, Peter vilandos, and Danny Fuhs.
Sung has a distinguished history at the World Series of Poker. His career earnings total over $2.7 million.
“I feel amazing,” Sung added. “I feel that this big monkey is off my back. It feels amazing to win. I am speechless right now. Maybe in a week it will hit me that I really won. But right now, I am not believing this.”
The final table ran for eight-hours and fourty-five minutes, and was broadcast on the ESPN360 web site.
