Administrative staff and bingo hall workers will lose jobs in Gala Coral's restructuring.
Gala Coral has announced plans to shed about 300 jobs with the closure of five more of its bingo venues looming. The gaming firm will cut just over 180 administrative posts in areas such as marketing, finance and human resources as it continues to react to difficult trading conditions.
Another 100 jobs are set to go when the Gala Bingo clubs in Hull St Stephens, Port Glasgow, Leven in Fife, Pitsea in Essex and Aldridge in Birmingham close down.
Gala Coral's chief executive Neil Goulden has said that the closures are a direct result of the government's decision to push bingo tax up from 15 per cent to 22 per cent.
According to the Times, Mr Goulden has met with Treasury officials this week in a bid to reverse the tax hike, which has caused major controversy within the bingo industry.
Last week, Gala closed its bingo club in Crystal Palace, south London.
