Bingo players in Essex encouraged to help children's mobility charity with unwanted foreign coins.
A bingo club in Essex is asking members to donate unwanted foreign coins as part of a new charity fundraising campaign. The Mecca Bingo venue in Harlow hopes to turn the unused money into cash for Whizz-Kidz, a charity that provides wheelchairs and other mobility equipment for young people with disabilities, the Harlow Herald reports.
Mecca Bingo raised over £286,000 for the organisation last year following fundraising campaigns at its clubs around the UK.
Explaining the Harlow club's latest project, general manager Bernie Dullaghan told the newspaper: "Whenever you come back from a summer holiday it always seems like you have a pocket full of leftover foreign coins.
"The banks won't take them but, until the end of September, we're accepting any foreign or old coins as a donation for Whizz-Kidz - all money raised will go to deserving kids in the region."
Former Coronation Street actor Tommy Craig helped to launch Mecca's national fundraising scheme for Whizz-Kidz at a bingo hall in Sheffield earlier this year.
