More ladies are expected to play online poker in the coming years.
The number of ladies playing online poker is set to soar over the next couple of years, a new study has concluded.According to Poker Players Research (PPR), females account for around one in four real money players right now, with the examples set by professional poker players Vicky Coren and Vanessa Rousso persuading many to go online and have a gamble.
At the same time, however, women still tend to rake in less money as they sit at online tables for shorter periods of time, though the study found that the online poker industry is working hard to address this trend, meaning that female poker could account for a third of the market by 2011.
PPR spokesman Glenn Flackett noted: "Female growth is very important, and is now one of the main issues for operators."
The study was based on the responses of 13,000 female players across the US, Canada and Europe.
Coren was the first woman to win an event on the European Poker Tour and is currently a member of Team PokerStars Pro.
