Bingo winnings could double in San Francisco
A proposal to increase the bingo winnings limit in San Francisco has been approved by the City Operations and Neighbourhood Services Committee. While state law allows players to win up to $500 a game, city statutes limit payouts to $250.
However, Supervisor Bevan Dufty's bid to double the current prize money limit has been accepted by the committee and passed on to the full board, which the San Francisco Examiner reports will vote on whether to adopt the measure next week.
"It is a fairly simple measure that seeks to reflect state law," Mr Dufty told the news provider.
"The most important thing that I have learned is all of the great things that charitable bingo allows to happen and all the different organisations that receive support."
Bingo games will still be limited to a maximum of six hours in the city, and organisers will also be regulated to ensure that good causes receive a share of the profits.
Mr Dufty was elected in December 2002 and represents San Francisco's District 8.
