Murray is on course for a meeting with Federer in the final

Prospect of Murray v Federer final creates interest in sports betting markets.

A Wimbledon final showdown between Andy Murray and Roger Federer would break sports betting records for tennis, according to William Hill.

Both players are in quarter-final action at SW19 today (July 1st), with Murray facing Spanish wildcard Juan Carlos Ferrero and Federer taking on big-serving Croat Ivo Karlovic.

Bookmakers are certainly hoping that the British number one and the Swiss superstar both progress to the next stage, as the match which has been referred to as the 'dream final' is certain to attract major interest from punters.

Rupert Adams, spokesperson for William Hill, commented: "We think that a Murray v Federer final will smash all tennis betting records and we predict a million pounds-plus turnover before a ball is hit."

Sky Bet pushed Murray's odds of winning the tournament out from 2/1 to 5/2 after his gruelling five-set victory over Stanislas Wawrinka on Monday.

Meanwhile, William Hill is offering 9/2 on the Scot winning his first Grand Slam title in five sets later this week.
