Germany's Martin Kaymer is aiming for three in a row at the British Open

Sports betting firms are taking bets on Martin Kaymer winning the Open at Turnberry,

Martin Kaymer's victory at the Scottish Open - his second straight win on the European Tour - has seen bookmakers slash their odds on the German triumphing at the Open Championship this week.

Kaymer has been cut from 66/1 to 33/1 at William Hill to win the golfing calendar's third major championship, which gets underway at Turnberry in Ayrshire on Thursday (July 16th).

The 24-year-old finished two strokes ahead of Raphael Jacquelin and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano to win at Loch Lomond on Sunday, having beaten Lee Westwood in a playoff to clinch the French Open title the previous week.

"It would be an amazing feat were Kaymer to win three in a row and certainly a decent number of our punters have backed him to win again at Turnberry," said Rupert Adams, spokesperson for William Hill.

Meanwhile, Paddy Power makes Kaymer 10/3 to finish in the top ten and 13/10 to make the top 20 at the Open.

World number one Tiger Woods remains favourite at 2/1 with William Hill, while Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy can be backed at 20/1.
